Coquina News and Notes (Good Friday and Easter Edition)

Grace to you family on this beautiful day.

Join us this Friday, April 2, at 6pm, downtown on the square, to reflect on the death of Jesus on the cross.  Join us at about 4pm on the square to help invite passers-by and pray for our time together.  Special musical guest, "Lights of Evening" will be playing a concert after our communion service.  Be sure to bring blankets and lawn chairs, as there is no seating, and very little grass. RSVP here: http://bit.ly/aC33Z9

Sunday, April 4th, join us at 10am for a wonderful Sunday celebrating Jesus' resurrection from the dead!  Bring some brunch food to share, and we'll continue the celebration with food and festivities, including an egg hunt for the kids (of all ages).  Feel free to decorate and/or fill eggs for the hunt. Please sign-up and RSVP here: http://bit.ly/bFJWNH

Do You Desire to Serve? If you would like to serve the church in any way, whether you already see a need or just want to help, but don't know where to start, talk to your Gospel Community leader and/or call Zac at (904) 599-5652 or email coquinacommunity@gmail.com
Just a few examples
of opportunities for service within the body :: baking bread for communion; counting money and people on Sundays; running "Media Shout" (like PowerPoint) on Sundays; singing; playing drums; playing bass; book-keeping; accounting; graphic design; hospitality help; administrative help; web design; setup; pulling the trailer; tear-down; A/V and soundboard; house concerts! etc.

Join us on The City:
The City is a new web-based tool designed just for churches, to build community, connect new people, grow in your faith, and lead others on mission. Coquina will be using this tool extensively going forward, so the more of us that are on The City, the better we will all be on the same page and be able to equip one another.  We've already seen several people sharing prayer requests and seeing God move in wonderful ways, facilitated by this tool.  Signup here: https://coquina.onthecity.org/kiosk/11971/signup

Grace be with you,

Pre-marital and Pre-engagement
5-Minute Meeting This Sunday:

If you are involved in the pre-marital and pre-engagement counseling, or want to be, come up front this Sunday following our worship gathering for a 5 minute meeting.  Starting 9a-12p Saturday morning and 6p-8p Sunday evening, Feb. 20th and 21st, Coquina will be having a pre-engagement/pre-marital group with mentoring follow-through.  If you are anywhere near considering engagement or marriage, talk to your Gospel Community leader, then contact Zac at coquinacommunity@gmail.com or (904) 599-5652.  You will need the book Preparing for Marriage, which is available for $10 on the book table at our Sunday gatherings.

The Elders Are Coming!
We, as a family, are going through the last stages of seeing elders commissioned.  You can pray for the men that were interviewed on Monday, February 8th by two members of our Advisory Board (Richard Parker and Rick Borque). And, on Sunday, March 7th, one of our advisory board members will come to preach as elders are to be commissioned.

Georgia On My Mind:
Although the trip to Columbia, SC to visit James Walden and family at Riverside Community Church has been postponed, we've still been invited to take a part in a wonderful training opportunity, for the sake of discipleship, in Macon, GA.  Woody Baugher, Zac Anderson, and Pastor Gardner will be attending Porterbrook Southeast this Saturday in Macon.  We look forward to sharing more about this training program in the coming months.

Haiti Update: Pastor Henoc Lucien

Below is a recent update from Henoc Lucien, a pastor from Cap-Haitian (a north coast city). Prayerfully and pray-fully read. Coquina will be sending support to and through Henoc and other related area churches:

The earthquake happened on Tuesday evening. All communication was cut off. We did not know what was going on except for what we were reading on the internet and on the radio.. Because of the heavy overcast, we could not watch CNN. I wanted to go to Port au Prince, but with no telephone communication, it could get complicated.

Generous Mercy: Haiti's Devastation and Our Gospel Response

If you've been tuned into any news outlet the past few days, you've heard of the 7.0 earthquake of destruction that has crippled and broken Haiti. Of the 9 million people in Haiti, 2-3 million are in the capital city, Port-au-Prince. This devastation has left perhaps millions homeless and tens of thousands dead in the nation which is the poorest in the Western Hemisphere, where 80% of the people live in poverty, and 50% live in abject poverty.
